Amel Guettatfi is a nine time Emmy Award-winning Algerian-American journalist and documentary filmmaker, focusing on Africa and the Middle East.
Most recently, she made news documentaries for VICE’s shows on both Showtime and HBO. And has spent the past decade reporting from around the world including Gaza, Mali, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Nigeria, Yemen, Lebanon and Ethiopia.
Amel and her team were awarded the prestigious Edward R. Murrow of the Overseas Press Club for a hard hitting investigative story on the impact of the six year war in Yemen on its children. That same piece was also awarded a 2022 Emmy Award for outstanding continuing coverage. In January 2021, Amel and her colleagues were the first - and to date only - western journalists to embed with the Wagner group in their most successful theater in the Central African Republic for three weeks, gaining unparalleled access to their operations and their modus operandi. That film was awarded the George Polk for outstanding TV reporting.
